Infants

At Lifetime Physiotherapy we understand and know, that each child is different and has different therapy needs and goals. As a parent, we want to insure that everything is developing as it should be.

Infants can present with a variety of issues, this may be from very common issues such as a flat head, asymmetrical head position or turned in feet, all the way through to neurological issues such as Cerebral Palsy or congenital disorders.

How do you know if your child needs Physiotherapy?

The easiest way to know if your child needs physiotherapy is to look into the developmental charts that indicate at what general age an infant should be hitting certain milestones.

A Doctor usually recommends physiotherapy if an infant:

  • Fails to meet developmental milestones during the first year of life

  • Favors one side of the body and/or tilting the head to one side only

  • Has poor posture

  • Has been diagnosed with cerebral palsy, torticollis, and other neuromuscular disorders

  • Has floppy and/or stiff muscle tone

  • Has difficulties with balance and coordination

Our Therapists assist in helping to strengthen the muscles or body parts that just aren’t developing the way that they should be and pushing forward to help your child overcome as many limitations as possible, so that he or she is able to live a higher quality life by not suffering from physical restrictions.
